I am proud to be a supporter of the “Dine In For Healthy Families” Day! Last year, more than 100,000 people committed to preparing and eating a healthy meal together on December 3. This year, they want to double their results and reach 200,000 commitments! You’ll be able to track our progress by checking back to see the thermometer and following us on social media. About the Event
After the overwhelming success of the first Family & Consumer Sciences Day last year, the American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) is pleased to announce that Family & Consumer Sciences Day, “Dining In” for Healthy Families, will again take place on December 3rd in 2015! December 3rd was chosen to honor family and consumer sciences pioneer and AAFCS founder Ellen Swallow Richards’ birthday.
One of the main goals of Family & Consumer Sciences Day is to have families commit to preparing and eating a healthy meal together on December 3rd. After receiving 100,000 commitments last year from families on every continent, in every state, and in 17 countries, AAFCS is planning to double their results this year!
“Family & Consumer Sciences Day calls attention to something simple families can do to be physically, mentally, and financially healthier—prepare and eat a nutritious meal together. We are proud to lead this important initiative,” said Carolyn W. Jackson, CFCS, AAFCS CEO.
Family & Consumer Sciences Day is used as a platform to discuss the benefits of family mealtime, especially in the areas of well-being, resources, and relationships. It is an ideal initiative for family and consumer sciences professionals to champion because so many of them conduct research and deliver educational programs in these areas.
